MANILA - Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. said its core network modernization is expected to boost the operations of business process outsourcing as well as offshoring and outsourcing industries, particularly in the "next wave" cities such as Iloilo, Batangas, and Baguio.
“Our upgrade to advanced optical technologies will add significant bandwidth scalability, and intelligence to PLDT’s current network infrastructure allowing us to offer 40G and 100G-based services to meet forecasted demand in high-speed connectivity,” Napoleon Nazareno, PLDT president and chief executive said.
PLDT had tapped Ceina Corp. for a P1.3 billion upgrade in its core network to 100G technology with Optical Transport Network switching solution.
The upgrade is expected for completion in November this year.
PLDT’s deployment of 100G technology in its domestic network puts the Philippines in a leadership position in Asia-Pacific, among only a handful of other countries in the region, such as Japan, South Korea, Australia, and Singapore.
Eric R. Alberto, PLDT executive vice president and head of Enterprise and International and Carrier Business, said its robust network of next generation network and fiber has continued to expand at the level of quality, capacity, diversity, redundancy, and other specifications that will cater to the growing demand for reliable ICT connectivity of the country’s enterprises.
Earlier, the Department of Science and Technology said the IT-BPO industry is expected to earn $27.4 billion in revenue sby 2016.
Alberto said PLDT is continuously upgrading its network to the future specs of the country’s leading industries, such as the BPO and O&O sectors to provide world-grade ICT capacity.
