MANILA - The torrential rains and flooding disrupted operations of 12 companies based in economic zones in Cavite, but the Department of Trade and Industry said they have since resumed operations.
"There were 12 firms in Cavite temporarily affected, but all are operational now," Trade Secretary Gregory Domingo told InterAksyon.com on Friday.
Ecozones are home to exporters that enjoy tax incentives and other perks granted by the Philippine Economic Zone Authority, an investment promotions agency of the DTI.
Ernesto Santiago, president of the Semiconductor and Electronics Industries in the Philippines, said its member-firms likewise were spared the brunt of the monsoon rains and floods.
“They had no impact except on some companies losing one shift due to confusing and late announcement of no work order," Santiago told InterAksyon.com.
"There was no supply disruption or widespread power failure. Movement of goods was also as usual except for some delay due to rerouting to avoid flooded streets," Santiago said. Electronics account for more than a third of the country's merchandise exports.
