MANILA - A unit of Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. has signed a deal with the Bureau of Customs to help improve the agency's revenue collection in ports nationwide.
Under the agreement, PLDT ALPHA Enterprise will connect Customs' 15 major ports through a 1mbps redundant line while 27 sub-ports will be linked using 512kbps connection through an Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network or IPVPN solution.
PLDT ALPHA Enterprise will also provide managed services for switches, routers, monitoring equipment, WiFi, and VoIP equipment.
“We are in agreement with the Bureau of Customs that technology will enable them to achieve their mandates to their constituents and we are keen to partner with the [Customs] in this project. The Bureau of Customs is a very vital agency in the nation’s quest for sustainable economic development,” Ernesto R. Alberto, executive vice president and head of PLDT/SMART Enterprise and International Carrier Business said.
Rufino Biazon, Customs commissioner, said PLDT can help the bureau in performing its mandate of raising revenues for the government while sustaining integrity efforts through technology.
“We need a reliable technology partner and PLDT gives us that confidence that will help us perform and improve our services to our customers,” Biazon said.
Data from Customs showed that it raised P22.22 billion in August, or P5.9 billion short of its P28.13 billion target for the period.
The August figure brought the bureau's eight-month collection to P190.04 billion, P36.04 billion short of its P226.75 billion goal for the period.
