MANILA - FirstCarbon Solutions Corporation on Thursday said it has been commissioned by the Hong Kong Jockey Club to improve its energy use efficiency.

James M. Donovan, FirstCarbon Solutions chief executive officer, said HKJC tapped the company "to monitor and manage its energy consumption and carbon emissions.”

FirstCarbon Solutions, a member of outsourcing solutions provider ADEC Group, will consolidate all of HKJC’s sustainability data through the company's Sustainability Workbench software platform.

The technology will allow Hong Kong's horse racing and betting institution to measure the carbon emissions, refrigerant and diesel consumption, office supplies use, water consumption, as well as the electric consumption of its 104 betting branches.

"By using FirstCarbon Solutions Sustainability Workbench, HKJC will be able to measure the results of its reduction initiatives in the most efficient, cost-effective manner," Donovan said.

He said one of HKJC’s goals is to enhance efficiency while mitigating the environmental impact of its operations.

According to its 2011 sustainability report, the organization implements sustainability strategies and environmentally responsible practices into their operations, while maintaining their commitment to improving the lives of the people in Hong Kong.

HKJC has received awards for its proactive efforts in encouraging business partners and promoting a green lifestyle. Since 2009, its collective efforts on waste reduction, energy efficiency and air quality improvement resulted in the use of 100 percent recycled tickets, segregation of waste, and cost-effective consumption of air conditioning systems.
