MANILA - The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines is set to upgrade its power transmission facilities to resolve the voltage regulation problems hounding Luzon.
In a statement, NGCP said it invested P269 million in additional capacitor banks of various substations to improve voltage and boost system reliability in the Luzon grid.
The project also involves installation of shunt reactors at the Naga substation and capacitor banks in four substations, namely Dona Imelda, Cabanatuan, Marilao and Muntinlupa.
The shunt reactor in Naga aims to address the over-voltage problem in the area during off- peak load condition when the Tiwi geothermal plant is at minimum generation.
"The capacitor components of the voltage improvement project in the four substations will improve the voltage profile during normal conditions and address the potential under-voltage during contingencies," NGCP said.
The multi-million peso-project initiated in December 2011 is scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of 2013.
NGCP is a privately owned corporation in charge of operating, maintaining, and developing the country’s power grid.
It transmits high-voltage electricity through “power superhighways” that include the interconnected system of transmission lines and towers, substations and related assets.
