MANILA - Megaworld Corp is bringing in an international hotel brand for its township project in Iloilo.

In a statement, the property firm of billionaire Andrew Tan said it will earmark P1.5 billion to construct the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel in the 72-hectare Iloilo Business Park.

The 15-storey contemporary hotel will have 314 rooms and suites, all of which will have a curtain wall system that will provide a view of the urban landscape of Iloilo Business Park.

Megaworld intends to complete the development in time for the Philippines' hosting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting in 2015. Iloilo is bidding to host the side meetings of the summit.

“This is another milestone for Iloilo Business Park. Our development in Iloilo is a showcase of our company’s commitment to uplifting the Ilonggo lifestyle to a whole new level,” said Jericho Go, Megaworld first vice president.

"This is the first Courtyard by Marriott hotel in the Philippines. We are happy and very excited that our fastest-growing brand in the Marriott group will rise in Iloilo Business Park," said Peter Gassner, director for Hotel Development Asia-Pacific at Marriott International Inc.

Courtyard by Marriott, from Marriott International’s portfolio of world-class brands, caters to business travelers. Megaworld’s Newport City township in Pasay City is home to the Marriott Hotel Manila.

Amenities of the new hotel include a lounge bar, meeting rooms, swimming pool with bar, outdoor bar and grill, state-of-the-art gym and business center.

“The Courtyard by Marriott Iloilo will also feature a restaurant which will serve high quality food that the Courtyard brand is also famous for, featuring a variety of international and local cuisines,” Gassner said.

Iloilo Business Park, Megaworld’s biggest township in Western Visayas, will have luxury residential condominiums, BPO office towers, a lifestyle mall, a 1.1-kilometer Festive Walk commercial strip, open parks, transport hub, and the much-anticipated Iloilo Convention Center, among others.
