Actor-director Ricardo Rivero survives stabbing attack
MANILA, Philippines — Actor-director Ricardo Rivero survived an attack inside his Quezon City home before dawn Monday, police said.
Initial reports from Quezon City police showed that Rivero sustained at least 10 stab wounds from an attack allegedly by 22-year old Ivan Ruiz, whom the victim reportedly met through the social networking site Facebook.
The motive for the attack was unclear, though earlier TV reports said the attacker was demanding money from Rivero because his father was gravely ill.
Police said Rivero, a director of the ABS-CBN soap “Mula Sa Puso,” was attacked inside his home at Barangay Pinyahan at around 3 a.m.
Initial police reports said Rivero woke up as the victim started stabbing him. He first ran to the bathroom but there Ruiz allegedly tried to strangle him with a bathroom towel. Eventually, Rivero managed to escape and even drove himself to the Philippine Heart Center.
Rivero was later transferred to St. Luke’s Medical Center and is now in stable condition.
