Anne Curtis, apl.de.ap, Gerald Anderson, other celebs pledge: ‘I am for peace’
President Benigno Aquino III named a number of celebrities as National Peace Ambassadors during Friday’s launch of the “I am for Peace” campaign at the Malacañan Palace. Among them are apl.de.ap, Anne Curtis, Gerald Anderson, Christian Bautista, and Derek Ramsey.
Said Aquino in his speech, “Nagkakaisa tayong tumataya upang manaig ang kapayapaan, at ipagsigawan sa bawat sulok ng ating bayan na ‘I am for Peace.’ Samahan ninyo ako: ihatid natin sa mas mapayapang bukas ang bawat Pilipino.”
(“We are united in our bid to let peace reign and shout to every corner of our nation that ‘I am for peace’. Join me: let us bring every Filipino to a more peaceful tomorrow.”)
“So honored to serve as peace ambassador! Thanks Mr. President @noynoyaquino & Sec. Deles!” tweeted Christian. “Let’s make peace happen! Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!”
The singer added the trending hashtag #iamforPEACE, as well as the official Twitter handle of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP), @OPAPP_peace, which spearheaded the campaign. The official Twitter handle of the campaign, on the other hand, is @iamforpeaceph.
“#iamforPEACE I am a big dreamer and I dream for UNITY & PEACE in our country. Why are you for peace?” tweeted Anne.
Megan Young also tweeted from the Palace. “Just got presented as one of the Peace Ambassadors here in Malacañan! #IamforPeace I am so honored to be a part of this. ” She added, “Peace is respect for one another. #IamforPeace.”
apl.de.ap seems to have been looking forward to the event since Thursday. He tweeted the day before the affair, “On my way to Philippines to formally be named as a Peace Ambassador. I’ll post pics from ceremony. #IamforPeace.”
Fellow ambassadors Noel Cabangon and Kiray Celis were excited to post their pictures with the Black Eyes Peas star on the day of the event. Tweeted Kiray, “HOE MAI GAHD! Nagpapicture sakin si IDOL APL DE AP!!! Yaaaay!”
Azkals team captain Aly Borromeo is also an ambassador. His Tweet was a call to action: “It starts with each other… Let’s all work together from the ground up and promote PEACE! #iamforpeace #Azkals.”
Ebe Dancel, whose recent musical release “Sirena” (along with fellow ambassador Gloc-9) can be seen as a rallying cry to respect the rights of the gay community, tweeted: “Honored to be chosen as peace ambassador. At 10am today, I get to meet the President and the other ambassadors. #IamforPeace Kapayapaan sa inyong mga puso #IamforPeace.”
Also named ambassadors were Derek Ramsey, Karylle, Sam Concepcion, Epy Quizon, Mikael Daez, Igi Boy, and Rovilson Fernandez.
Internet stars Ramon Bautista and Kimpoy Feliciano; musician Datu Khomeini; fashion designers Arnold Galang and JC Buendia; and the Philippine Azkals are now peace ambassadors, as well.
“We are glad to say that what was once a few will now become many,” said Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Teresita Deles. “May this be the start of another lifelong partnership that will bring change and empower our nation amidst difficulties and tribulations.”
The “I am for Peace” campaign “seeks to mobilize various sectors of society to support the peace process,” according to OPPAP. It was launched in observance of the ninth National Peace Consciousness Month, themed “Ako. Ikaw. Tayo. Magkakaiba, Nagkakaisa sa Kapayapaan.”
