Directors Take 5: InterAksyon’s Guide to Cinemalaya Part 2

Seasoned filmmakers take centerstage in Cinemalaya’s Directors Showcase.

In this category, viewers can expect films that are more polished in both look and execution. The experience and creativity of the directors also come into play as they are able to make the most out of their budgetary constraints and other related limitations.

While the entertainment value and commercial appeal of each of these films are likely to extend “beyond the halls of the CCP” as director Jun Lana would put it, they are also not bereft of social relevance as they tackle a disputed territory, animal love, the true meaning of friendship, appreciation of a lost art and a warped justice system at the local level.

Interestingly, four out of the five films are products of auteurs, who directed from their own screenplays. The lone non-writer edited his film and also did the production design.

And as each of the five entries offers something for everyone, take a look at what catches your fancy in our quick guide below.

Get those hankies ready as you’re likely to shed a lot of tears of “Old Yeller” proportions in Jun Lana’s moving dramedy.
