Chinese Man
One of the most anticipated annual music festivals in the metro is Alliance Française de Manille’s Fete de la Musique, where the best contemporary Pinoy acts share the stage with lauded international artists.
The theme for this year’s Fete is a tribute to The Beatles. For the first time it will be held at the heart of Metro Manila’s business district, closing down Makati Avenue from B. Valdez St. to Kalayaan Ave. for a one of a kind street concert on Saturday, June 23.
Totally free of charge, the festivities open at 4PM and the music will keep playing till 2AM.
One of the most exciting acts to come out of Europe, French DJ Collective Chinese Man, will grace the main stage, located at the corner of Kalayaan Avenue and Makati Avenue, along with iconic local artists like Cynthia Alexander, Pepe Smith, Johnny Alegre Affinity, and Blue Rats featuring Cookie Chua.
Formed in the French city of Marseille in 2004, Chinese Man’s music is a blend of hip-hop, dub, Afro-Beat, baile funk, traditional music and forgotten samples. They are one of the most innovative DJ collectives in France, with a sold-out European tour in support of their albums “Groove Sessions, Volume 1 & 2”.
There will be eight other pocket venues sponsored and organized by various hosts.
They include the electronica stage at Time, the hip-hop stage at Kyss, the jazz stage at St. Giles Hotel, the Latin stage at Chihuahua, the world/reggae/ska stage at Society Lounge, the blues and soul stage at Heckel and Jeckel, the experimental and ambient stage at ART 1651, and the Rock Stage at The Collective’s B-Side (located on Malugay Road).
Fête de la Musique 2012 is organized by the French Embassy, the Alliance Française de Manille, with Rustan’s, the City of Makati, B-Side (the Collective) and San Miguel.
