Fox+ streaming service launched in exclusive partnership with Cignal, PLDT/Smart
Fox Networks Group Asia enters the video streaming arena with the recent launch of Fox+ promising “an unrivalled combination of the latest TV series, first-run Hollywood blockbusters, hit Chinese series and movies, live sports and thrilling documentaries, all in one place, accessible from any device, at any time, in high definition.”
In an interview with InterAksyon during the launch event held at Blackbird restaurant in Makati, Fox Networks Group Asia president Zubin Gandevia said that the new Fox+ streaming app is borne out of their desire to give everyone and not just fans of their channels the best possible entertainment service.
“Before we launched this, people who want to watch our entertainment offerings watch it in our channels. If you miss it, you want to watch it again, you will have to wait until we air it again. Now with Fox+, fans can now access it in one place, anytime, in any place and in any device,” he further explained.
With over 11,000 of programming across multiple genres, the most popular content from global movie studios and television channels will be on tap, including recent blockbusters like “Deadpool,” “The Jungle Book,” “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and “The Revenant.” Fans can also binge watch every season of shows like “The Walking Dead,” “Homeland,” “The Young Pope” or “24 Legacy.”
For sports fans in particular, Fox+ offers its unique live streaming service. This service will allow fans to watch wherever they may be when the action kicks off.
In joining an increasingly growing entertainment platform and competes with the likes of Hooq, iFlix, Blink, Netflix and HBO’s own HBO Go streaming video service, Fox+ has forged a partnership with Cignal and PLDT/Smart that will allow it to corner the latter’s huge subscriber base.
“Anyone can try out Fox+ for free for 30 days and the subsequent monthly subscription is P390 which we think is very competitive. But our partnership with Cignal, PLDT and Smart allows us to give our fans even more value than we can give otherwise as subscriber of these companies can get Fox+ heavily discounted and in some cases, even free,” Gandevia noted.
True enough, FOX+ subscription is bundled with Cignal Fox Plan and Postpaid Plan 830 and up.
Cignal and PLDT/Smart officials led by MVP Group of Companies Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan and Cignal President and CEO Jane Jimenez-Basas were on hand to toast the launch of Fox+ and their exclusive partnerships.
Given that Fox also produces its own programming, Gandevia was asked if Fox+ will produce its own streaming-only exclusive content.
“We do have some Fox+ behind the scenes exclusives for shows like ‘24’ and some National Geographic content. But unlike other companies who only have a streaming service, we also have a channel business so it makes more sense for us to produce shows that can be available in all of our platforms,” Gandevia pointed out.
“At heart, we make and tell great stories, we do it all over the world and we do it in all formats,” Gandevia concluded.
Initially launched in the Philippines, Fox+ will soon be available across the Southeast Asia region over the coming months.
