Leighton Meester, star of the hit series “Gossip Girl”, will arrive in Manila this week to grace the Penshoppe All Stars show at the Philippine Fashion Week.
The retail fashion brand confirmed the news on Tuesday after a couple of tweets from its publicist had generated a guessing game from fans.
Publicity Asia teased its followers with this tweet on Monday: “COMING SOON: A new muse for @PENSHOPPE! Find out who she is during IMPACT happening at Phil Fashion Week #PENSHOPPEAllStar.”
This was followed by another tweet that significantly narrowed down the list of candidates: “CLUE: xoxo.”
The shorthand for hugs and kisses is a signature line by the anonymous narrator on the teen drama series “Gossip Girl.”
Fans quickly deduced that Penshoppe’s publicist was referring to one of the show’s lead stars, Leighton Meester, who plays the privileged Manhattan socialite and fashion plate Blair Waldorf, nicknamed Queen B.
Penshoppe, a local clothing brand, tweeted this confirmation: “You read it here FIRST: Leighton Meester @itsmeleighton is confirmed to arrive in Manila, Philippines for the big @PENSHOPPE show #IMPACT.”
The 26-year-old actress and singer is the latest international celebrity and the second “Gossip Girls” star to join the roster of Penshoppe’s All Star endorsers.
Last year, Penshoppe signed up British actor Ed Westwick, who plays Chuck Bass on “Gossip Girls”, the billionaire bad boy and love interest of Blair Waldorf.
Just last Saturday, “Vampire Diaries” lead actor Ian Somerhalder arrived in the Philippines to shoot a publicity campaign for the apparel brand in El Nido in Palawan.
Thai matinee idol Mario Maurer and Hollywood actor Zac Efron of “High School Musical” fame complete the roster of Penshoppe endorsers.
Penshoppe’s “Impact” event will be held on May 26 at SMX Convention Center Hall 3 at the Mall of Asia.
