New tourism slogan: Exec has fun with ‘social climbing’, ‘late bloomers’, and proving DOT right

Filipinos have been quick to validate Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez Jr.’s confidence that the population’s savvy with the Internet and social media will expand, magnify and sustain the new national tourism campaign built around the recently unveiled slogan, “It’s more fun in the Philippines.”

User-generated content – pictures, captions, tweets, Facebook postings, blogs – have sprouted with countless social media accounts. But of what we’ve seen so far, Facebook user Roland Benzon – a co-founder and executive of early SMS and social networking platform Chikka.com – sets a standard for wit and for demonstrating, we’re sure, what Jimenez envisioned Filipinos would precisely do with the national tourism brand: Take it, own it, and run with it.

Benzon borrowed (and fully credits) pictures made, found, and/or posted by friends, and mashed them up with his own copy to illustrate precisely why these, among other things, are “More Fun in the Philippines”:

Check out Benzon’s posted album here and find out why these – and even “Social Climbing” – are all more fun in the Philippines.

Beyond Benzon, countless other Filipinos have taken on the DOT challenge, creating their own takes – some seriously, some not so much – on why things are fun in these islands.
