Raymart Santiago on rumors of a split with Claudine Barretto: ‘No marriage is perfect’

Actor Raymart Santiago is mum about the real situation of his relationship with troubled wife Claudine Barretto.

The actor made his first appearance after months of showbiz seclusion during the press launch of the newest GMA-7 primetime show “Home Sweet Home”.

Days before the press launch, his alleged marital problems with Claudine were revealed on social media, courtesy of Claudine’s sisters Gretchen and Marjorie Barretto.

In one of Gretchen’s tweets, she mentioned that Raymart had left his family’s home in Loyola Grand Villas because of Claudine’s violent behavior. She even said Claudine had damaged Raymart’s Porsche and laptop in one heated argument.

Gretchen also added that Claudine should go back to Medical City and get treated again.

As for Marjorie, she tweeted that Claudine had wanted to block the projects intended for Julia Barretto, Marjorie’s daughter by Dennis Padilla.

The young actress is being groomed by ABS-CBN for a new teleserye, but Claudine was said to be making calls to stop whatever projects the network had in store for her niece.

Raymart declined to discuss his wife’s bitter feud with her sisters during the presscon. In fact, the media was asked not to bother with any questions related to his marriage to Claudine. But reporters would not leave without trying to get something out of the actor until he obliged with a careful reply.

So has he and Claudine called it quits?

“Wala namang marriage na perfect—I am not perfect. May times na nagkakaroon ng konting tampuhan. May mga hindi kayo mapagkasunduan.
But we always turn to God kapag may ganyang nangyayari sa pamilya namin. I always pray that things will be better,” Raymart said.

As for their kids, Sabina and Santino, the 40-year-old actor says they are doing okay and are ready to join showbiz if he gives them the go signal. “Matatapos na ang bakasyon, eh. Pasukan na. So hindi na puwede,” he said matter-of-factly.

Raymart has employed a subtle strategy of telling them he’s not ready to give his blessings.

“I always tell them that they can join showbiz kapag tapos na silang mag-aral. I don’t want to disappoint them. Sinasabi ko lang na wala pa silang permit from DOLE (Department of Labor and Employment). Kaya they can’t join showbiz yet. Kelan ko raw sila kukunan ng permit? Sabi ko kapag nasa tamang age na sila. Through that, naiintindihan na nila.”

During the many months that he was not working on TV, Raymart was busy running his restaurant Red Garlic and his company Heli-Vision Production, which provides cameras for aerial shots for TV commercials, movies and TV shows.

“Those are the things that kept me busy. Kaya medyo tahimik lang ako. Now that I have a new show, nagsisimula na naman ang mga usap-usapan. I try to cope with whatever is rumored every day,” he said.

How is handling the rumors so far?

“Matagal na ako sa industriyang ito. Sanay na ako. Before mainitin ang ulo ko, eh. Nagagalit agad ako. Ngayon, ngingitian ko na lang lahat. Hindi naman lahat madadaan sa init ng ulo. Maging quiet na lang tayo at nagtrabaho ng maayos.”
