Ruffa Gutierrez told her Twitter followers on Saturday afternoon that she was quitting “Paparazzi Showbiz Exposed” after she felt disrespected during her birthday celebration on her TV5 talk show.
“Hindi ako natutuwa sa birthday presentation ng Paparazzi para sa akin. Wala kayong kwenta at wala kayong respeto,” the actress, who will turn 38 on Sunday, tweeted immediately after the telecast.
Ruffa did not reveal the details of what caused her displeasure, but she appeared uneasy during the show’s “Bulong ng Palad” segment where the hosts usually take turns whispering a naughty question to their guest, who is expected to answer it out loud.
In a statement, TV5 said it was “seriously concerned” about what transpired during the show, and vowed to launch an investigation into the matter.
Because it was her birthday celebration, Ruffa was made the segment’s subject by her co-hosts.
Cristy Fermin, Zoren Legaspi, Mr. Fu, and guest co-host Mariel Rodriguez each whispered a personal question with a common set of multiple-choice answers: Aga Muhlach, Zoren, and Robin Padilla—three actors who had past romantic links to the actress.
Ruffa appeared uncomfortable about the inclusion of Robin, Mariel’s husband, among the answers, although Mariel herself seemed okay with it.
Zoren, who had a teenage romance with Ruffa, cheered when Ruffa gave his name as the answer to the first question whispered by Christy.
Ruffa’s first tweet was followed in sequence by the following posts that now included the hash tag, #Paparazzi:
“The msg from Habitat For Humanity & Ms. Faith of Avon Philippines was heartwarming but what happened after that was a disgrace! #Paparazzi”
“Hindi nyo man lang naisip na nanonood ang mga anak ko! Yung head ng PROGRESS Gold Milk of Wyeth was at the studio, my friends were watching.”
“Binastos ako ng #Paparazzi on my birthday. I’m so sorry but THE BUZZ would never do this to me. EVER!”
“From this day on, I will no longer be part of Paparazzi. I will never tolerate DISRESPECT in any form done to me, to my children or to my beloved viewers.”
“I refuse to be part of trashy reporting that degrades people or shames others. #Paparazzi”
“I know God will provide work for me in other ways so I can take care of my daughters.”
“Lorin & Venice were watching #Paparazzi cuz they were excited to see my reaction on the handmade card/note they made for me.”
One of the immediate reactions came from Ruffa’s mother, Annabelle Rama, who went ballistic with the following tweets:
“(1) Dapat tanggalin na yang mga bobong writers ng Paparazzi! Walang mga utak, mga abnormal, mga maniac!”
“(2) Akala nila natutuwa ang mga viewers sa mga kabastusan nila? Hoy mga baklang writers ng Paparazzi magsilayas na kayo dyan!”
“(3) Kaya di nagre-rate ang show kasi puro kali—–an at kabaklaan!
Stupid! idiot!”
Fellow actress Michelle Madrigal tweeted, “We love you ate @iloveruffag your head up!”
Bianca King was also sympathetic with this post, “@iloveruffag happy birthday ate ruffa. Sorry to hear about what happened on your show. You are still blessed.”
Mr. Fu tried to be a peacemaker of sorts with this tweet, “Kakaloka. sana maayos agad.#mayganon”
But most of the reactions were from those who were still in the dark as to what actually happened, with some actually looking forward to a YouTube upload of the controversial portion.
Kim Chiu wondered, “What happened kay ate Ruffa at sa Paparazzi? no idea ;(((“
Ruby Rodriguez asked, “Ano kaganapan?”
Candy Pangilinan echoed a similar question with the post, “O nga, ano b?”
And IC Mendoza, one of the hosts of TV5’s daily showbiz talk show “Juicy!”, suddenly found himself on the defensive after being on the receiving end of some negative reactions, “Fyi. Di po ako part ng paparazzi. Di ako yung Nagtanong Kay ate ruffa. Kaloka mga twitter haters. Bitter na bobo pa.”
Ruffa’s last tweet included an Instagram photo (above) of her with two daughters Lorin and Venice and the post, “Tears of happiness upon coming home to my family. True love!!! ❤❤❤”
