Shooting ‘Bourne’: More Fun in the Philippines – Rachel Weisz arrives in Manila
MANILA, Philippines – Hollywood actress Rachael Weisz arrived Sunday night at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) from the US to prepare for the shooting next week of the latest in the Jason Bourne film thriller series, titled, “Bourne Legacy.”
The Academy-winning actress came via Hong Kong on board Cathay Pacific flight CX 903 .
The latest installment of the popular film franchise is due to film some scenes in the Philippines, including in downtown Manila, the Walled City of Intramuros, the Edsa-Taft intersection, Makati business district, Navotas, and Marikina City public market.
“Lead actress Rachel Weisz is also expected to ride a jeepney [passenger jeep] as it spins around,” according to sources from the film outfit.
Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Francis Tolentino said earlier they are ready to ensure that Metro Manila looks good in the movie. “It’s best that we clean the area first before filming,” he said.
The Filipino producer with whom the Hollywood producers are working with had explained, however, that while they will not deliberately make a certain area look bad or dirty, they will also not want to spruce it up as to render the look unrealistic.
“For instance, we won’t dump garbage on Edsa because we know Edsa is kept clean,” said Lope “Jun” Juban Jr. in a radio interview with DWIZ last Friday.
According to him, the last part of the movie will be shot in Palawan’s famed El Nido, sparking comparisons with the last Bourne franchise that ended with a dramatic shot of a lovely Greek island where Matt Damon’s character sought sanctuary.
The “Bourne Legacy” is a spy fiction thriller that stars, together with Weisz, the star of Academy Best Picture “Hurt Locker,” Jeremy Renner, who will take over the role of the controversial CIA agent played previously by Matt Damon. Edward Norton is also cast in the thriller written and directed by Tony Gilroy.
Weisz is also expected to shoot some scenes in Gangnam-Gu, Seoul, South Korea; and in New York City, Long Island, New York.
“The Bourne Legacy” is actually the 2004 spy action thriller written by Eriv Van Lustbader, who assumed writing for the successful series when Robert Ludlum passed on. It is the fourth novel in the Jason Bourne series, and the first to be written by Lustbader.
The movie is reportedly going to focus on a new CIA operative and a new cast of characters that have to deal with Jason Bourne’s actions.
