Despite the mysterious pullout of earlier announcements on Facebook, SM Cinema has confirmed on its Twitter account that it will indeed show the live action film adaptation of “Rurouni Kenshin,” the popular Japanese manga series created by Nobohiru Watsuki and also known as “Samurai X.”
In an initial post that caught anxious anime fans by surprise, the Facebook pages of SM Cinema and Movie Punch said the film was supposed to have an opening playdate of October 17.
Movie Punch, which describes itself as a “Philippine personal blog bringing a new world of digital experience to life” posted a poster image of the film Wednesday with the SM Cinema logo above and with this accompanying message:
“Announcement to all Samurai x diehards, we are still awaiting for the approval from the Japanese producers, what we can confirm is Sm will be our partner if ever this deal pushes through and have agreed to a tentative date on oct 17 still to be approved by the producers, our President is currently abroad, and will be awaiting for his announcement as he is still in constant talks with the producers, so please bear with us, we will confirm as he arrives next week, PROMISE!”
The post has since been taken down in both sites prompting at least one Twitter user, L’Arc PHL ST (@l’arc Pilipinas) to tweet last September 12:
“Eeeepp. SM Cinemas pulled out their announcement regarding Rurouni Kenshin. Walang bawian! Who were able to save screencaps?”
Another still picture of the film posted on the FB page of SM City Fairview has remained with the caption, “Rurouni Kenshin (Samurai X) The Movie soon at SM Cinema this October!, SM Cinema Fairview.”
When FB users who commented asked if the film will only be shown in SM Fairview, one Herbert Camus, who seems to be an insider, posted, “sa lahat ng SM yan. pero under bidding pa kasi kaya wala pang exact date, may pagka epic daw yung galawan, pero nood n lang tyu.. baka ok nmn.”
In response to Twitter fans further inquiring about the certainty of the film’s local screening, SM Cinema tweeted on Thursday, “yes it will be shown in branches nationwide”, and on Friday morning, “yes, we’ll keep you posted on details”.
