MANILA, pHILIPPINES — Actress Valerie Concepcion apologized for her controversial tweets revealing President Benigno Aquino III partying with his security personnel at the height of rescue efforts for victims of storm “Sendong” but still defended the President’s actions.
Concepcion (@v_concepcion) apologized for her tweets after receiving backlash from netizens. She deleted these earlier tweets that revealed Aquino was at the Christmas party of the Presidential Security Group.
Concepcion said she was merely invited to perform at the Christmas party in Malacanang intended for “their employees with their husbands/wives and kids.”
She nevertheless confirmed that Aquino was at the party.
Concepcion said she did not see anything wrong with the President’s attendance at the party.
“I do not see anything wrong with that since its his obligation and responsibility being the head of Malacanang to be present and show his support for his hardworking employees and their respective families,” she said in her tweet.
She further said Aquino’s attendance at the party “doesn’t mean that the president is not thinking of ways to help our kababayan(s) in Mindanao. It doesn’t mean that the president is disregarding the plight of our fellow Filipinos. Let’s not be too quick to judge.”
The actress still apologized for her tweets and said it was not her intention to offend anyone or sound insensitive.
“I can’t imagine how difficult life is for the people affected in Mindanao and how difficult it is to be the president of the Philippines at this moment. Once again, I am very sorry for all those people I have offended. May God bless us all,” she tweeted.
