MANILA, Philippines – Niña Jose’s romance with dashing businessman Josh Calata, which started with a whirlwind courtship during the Yuletide season, has gone pfft after less than four months.
“For no reason at all, we don’t communicate anymore. We stopped talking to each other last week,” the actress told Interaksyon.com on Tuesday.
Niña met Josh during the Christmas party of the Calata Corporation, Josh’s family-owned agri-business company, in December where she, as an invited guest, performed two songs.
The two hit it off instantly, and the 31-year-old Josh stepped up the courtship throughout the holidays. He then invited the 22-year-old actress (chaperoned by her mother) to a vacation in Hong Kong where they officially became a couple on New Year’s Day.
Niña was giddy when she made the romance public early last month.
“I’ve never been happier. Ever since I met Josh things have been great. Parang wala akong problema,” an Interaksyon.com report quoted her as saying.
Apparently, the relationship quickly soured afterwards.
People close to the actress sensed trouble when she started cutting her hair short in recent weeks.
The star of the TV5 primetime drama “Valiente” is mum on why the romance ended so soon.
“Ganun yata talaga. Kapag suwerte sa career, malas sa love life. That’s why I want to work everyday na lang to keep myself busy,” Niña said.
She is thrilled by the positive reviews she has received for her recent performance as Leona Braganza in “Valiente.”
The show had been set to conclude on June 1, but the strong ratings compelled the TV5 bosses to extend it for another two weeks and move the finale to June 15.
“I’m very happy with my role in ‘Valiente.’ They entrusted me with a very good role. So far, it’s the most challenging role I’ve ever had. Thanks to the support of my co-actors and Direk Joel Lamangan,” she said.
Niña started her career on the first teen edition of “Pinoy Big Brother” where she was a batchmate of Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson.
That stint led to roles in ABS-CBN shows like “Mutya”, “Banana Split”, and “My Girl.”
Aside from “Valiente,” she is also a regular on the TV5 comedy program “The Jose & Wally Show Starring Vic Sotto.”
Early this year, Niña gave a controversial interview with “Paparazzi” host Zoren Legaspi in which she called Vic Sotto by his real first name, Marvic.
This fueled rumors that she and Vic were dating, which she subsequently denied.
“Never naman kaming nag-date ni Bossing. Hindi umabot sa gano’n,” she clarified in an interview with Interaksyon.com last month.
“He just asked me kung okey ba na one day ay maimbitahan niya ako for this Church service that he was a part of. Then we can have dinner after daw.
“I said okay kasi I saw nothing wrong with his invitation. Pero hindi nga natuloy iyon because naging busy na ako with the taping of ‘Valiente.’”
Those rumors stopped after Vic was romantically linked to “Eat Bulaga” co-host Pauleen Luna.
But according to Niña, she and Vic still text each other every day because they have remained “very good friends.”
