The crime thriller “The Frozen Ground” is being touted as the reunion of actors Nicolas Cage and John Cusack after 1997′s “Con Air”. But early buzz on the film is all about Vanessa Hudgens playing a stripper in a performance guaranteed to bury her “High School Musical” sweetheart image forever.
The trailer released on YouTube Tuesday contains several seconds of Hudgens’ character, 17-year-old Cindy Paulson, dancing provocatively in skimpy black lingerie and catching the attention of Cusack’s character, serial killer Robert Hansen.
The feature film debut of writer-director Scott Walker, “The Frozen Ground” is based on the real-life manhunt for Robert Hansen, the 1980s serial killer who stalked and murdered between 17 and 21 young women in Anchorage, abducting them and turning them lose in the Alaskan wilderness to hunt them.
Cage stars as Sgt. Jack Halcombe (based on real-life Alaskan detective Glenn Flothe) who makes it his personal crusade to stop the murders.
As Cindy Paulson, the 23-year-old Filipino-American Hudgens is the victim who survives Hansen’s thrill-killing spree and who turns to Halcombe for help in her search for justice.
“The Frozen Ground” opens November 30 in North American theaters.
