VIDEO | ‘When the Love is Gone’ is Viva’s homage to Danny Zialcita

If Regal Films is paying homage to Ishmael Bernal courtesy of “Status: It’s Complicated”, Chris Martinez’s update of the sex comedy “Salawahan”, Viva Films has its own tribute to another late and lamented filmmaker, Danny Zialcita. The studio’s latest glossy drama, “When the Love is Gone”, is, in fact, a remake of Zialcita’s “Nagalit ang Buwan sa Haba ng Gabi”.

Directed by Andoy Ranay, this complicated tale of forbidden love stars Gabby Concepcion, Alice Dixson, Andi Eigenmann, Jake Cuenca and Cristine Reyes. Younger audiences may not be familiar with the 1983 film but the trailer above — especially the classic line “Nandiyan ba ang asawa ko na asawa mo na asawa ng buong bayan? — should be enough to clue them in on why Zialcita deserves a homage of his own.
