Zoren Legaspi surprises Carmina Villaroel with wedding proposal, ceremony

Everybody was in on the secret — except the bride.

Carmina Villaroel thought she would shoot an ice cream commercial on Thursday afternoon with longtime partner Zoren Legaspi. She did not suspect a thing when she arrived at Fernbrook Gardens, a popular garden wedding venue in Alabang.

The storyboards presented to her earlier had her thoroughly convinced that the wedding dress she was asked to wear was just for the latest commercial of the couple and their twin children, Cassy and Mavy. She didn’t know that the cameras were on as soon as she sat down at the makeup chair.

Zoren had conspired with his family, friends, and Carmina’s TV network, ABS-CBN, to surprise her with an elaborate wedding ceremony. He staged a fight with a crew member to distract her.

And then a flash mob led by the G-Force dance group got the ball rolling. Zoren proposed to Carmina, and a civil wedding officiated by Court of Appeals Justice Amy Lazaro-Javier quickly followed.

Based on the interview they gave to “Bandila”, ABS-CBN’s late evening news program, after the event, the groom had succeeded on giving the bride her dream wedding.

“Lahat ng gusto ko mangyari sa wedding nangyari talaga,” an elated Carmina told interviewer Boy Abunda, who had been a part of the ruse. Then she turned to Zoren and said, “Thank you talaga, Tatay. You so know me!”

The entire production will air on ABS-CBN on November 24.

The couple have been together for 14 years, but a wedding only became possible early this year after Carmina’s marriage to Rustom Padilla was officially annulled. Rustom is now better known as the transgender BB Gandanghari, a co-star of Zoren’s on the TV fantasy series “Enchanted Garden”.

Zoren had intended to marry Carmina during a family vacation in Japan on Holy Week, but the circumstances did not prove auspicious. Nevertheless, he later told media that the wedding would definitely take place this year.

In August, BB told InterAksyon that Carmina and Zoren deserve their happy ending.

“I’m very happy for them. They should get married and be legally husband and wife. After 14 years of living together, doon na talaga dapat papunta ‘yun,” BB said.
