Four days later, Irvins Salted Egg Chips Philippines still has a purchase limit

Local fans of Irvins Salted Egg Chips would may have to satisfy their cravings one bag at a time. This #DangerouslyAddictive salted egg snack that’s now available on the ground floor of SM Megamall’s Fashion Hall is still imposing a limit of around five packs per sales transaction. The popular pasalubong from Singapore is priced at Php300 for the small pack (105 grams) and Php600 for the big packs (230 grams). Another favorite, Irvins salted egg sauce is not yet available here.

Four days since it opened last Friday, August 11, people still can’t get enough of the brand’s salted egg-flavored fish skin and potato chips judging from the long queue formed by buyers for getting orders and for paying in cash or credit card. But it has eased up compared to opening day (shown below):

Irvins began on a humble note by Irvin Gunawan, a restaurant owner, back in 2014. Gunawan’s seafood restaurant had just closed due to bad business but he and his culinary team had also played with the idea of coating potato chips with salted egg sauce. And soon, that kitchen experiment became a snack craze.

Those who’ve tasted Irvins Salted Egg Snacks say they like the product because it’s “salty, but not too salty. And it’s oily, but not too oily.”

In an interview in Business Times, Gunawan said he and his team are still creating more salted egg products for the public to enjoy—including, perhaps, salted egg pork skin or chicharon.
