Our verdict:

Known to techies as a provider of reliable NAS products, Synology storage models have also become a complete IP surveillance solutions by providing recording, monitoring, and managing IP cameras. In fact, DiskStation DS418j can be a complete stand-alone surveillance station. But aside from that great added feature, the DS418j is of course, first and foremost a NAS system that makes backing up small and large files in an uncomplicated manner. May it be on a PC, Mac, or other connected mobile devices, everything is simple to use especially with its built-in file management and sharing services, which after using, we found well-built and solid. The operating system is very intuitive and undemanding with a straightforward interface; effortlessly unleashing the DiskStation’s capabilities. You can go direct file storage or the geekier RAID (redundant array of independent disks) type of storing files, either way, the DS418j will accept your configuration. By the way, check out Synology’s very own Hybrid RAID (SHR) management system, which make storage volume deployment quick, easy, and practically no hardcore tech skills needed. We’ve tried several “made for home” NAS devices, and so far, this was the easiest to use. Thanks to its app, the complexity of managing your own NAS at home is now as easy as turning it on.
