They went to Malacanang on February 14, Valentine’s Day, to demand their due under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program Extension with Reforms -- their own lands to till.
They ended up being arrested and hauled off to the Manila Police District.
The farmers had come from various landholdings covered by CARPEr in Bukidnon, Negros and Davao.
They fear that, with the CARPEr expiring in 2014 and with a million hectares remaining to be distributed, they may not realize the promise of the law.
The Department of Agrarian Reform last year reported only a 41 percent accomplishment in its land distribution targets last year.
