MANILA, Philippines — Filipino social media users may be celebrating Social Media Day on Saturday but it seems a number of their favorite online services would be inaccessible throughout the day.
On Saturday afternoon, a number of social services such as Pinterest, Instagram, Flipboard and Netflix confirmed the outage problems in their respective services, pointing to a problem in Amazon’s cloud services.
We’re currently experiencing technical difficulties and we’re working to correct the issues. Thanks for your patience

Amazon, aside from being an e-Commerce giant, is also one of the leading providers of cloud-based hosting services to a number of small technology start-ups, such as the ones affected by the downtime on Saturday.
While some of the services have been restored as of posting time, a number of others — such as Instagram — remained inaccessible for most of Saturday morning.
A cursory check on the service’s health status page revealed that one of the company’s data centers located in North Virginia, USA, was experiencing power issues due to the weather conditions in the area.
“We can confirm that a large number of instances in a single Availability Zone have lost power due to electrical storms in the area. We are actively working to restore power,” according to an 8:40 PM PDT update by the company.
The latest in a series of recent outages on Amazon’s cloud services have dampened confidence on cloud-based services at a time when cloud computing is slowly gaining more mindshare among consumers and businesses alike.
Filipinos, however, remained jovial amid being cut off from their social media services, while some had to vent off their frustration on Twitter:
