Facebook turns down Oslo police in search for missing girl

Social networking site Facebook has refused to give Norwegian police access to the account of a teenage girl who went missing in Oslo at the weekend, police said Thursday.

During a press briefing on the investigation into the missing girl, Oslo police inspector Hanne Kristin Rohde said investigators had “for the time being received a ‘no’ from Facebook regarding access and insight into her account.”
She did not specify the reasons Facebook had provided for the refusal.

Facebook has however saved the content of her account and police will submit a new request, Rohde added.

A spokesperson for the site in northern Europe was not reachable for comment.
Sixteen-year-old Sigrid Schjetne disappeared on her way home late Saturday.
