The Iris 9000 is a voice control module for the Apple iPhone 4S & Siri that allows for you to control Siri from across the room.
Strangely enough, it has an uncanny resemblance to HAL 9000, the antagonist in Arthur C. Clarke’s science fiction Space Odyssey 2001.
In both the novel and the classic movie version directed by the late Stanley Kubrick, HAL was the artificial intelligence that interacted with the astronaut crew, eventually holding their fate inside the Discovery One spacecraft.

Anyway, with this novelty device from ThinkGeek, you simply place your iPhone into the Iris 9000 cradle and use the included micro remote to trigger Siri from up to 50 feet away. Just tap the remote button once, listen for the Siri chime and speak your command or question. The built in mic on the Iris 9000 picks up your voice from across the room and the embedded speaker amplifies Siri’s spoken responses.
You can also make and receive calls using the Iris 900 like a standard speakerphone. The glowing red eye even flickers along with Siri’s voice! But don’t worry, unlike HAL, IRIS will NOT kill you.
