Sony smartphone without Ericsson

Sony has unveiled the Xperia S, its first smartphone from the new Xperia NXT series without the Sony Ericsson branding.

The new Xperia S has a 12MP camera and comes with a 1.5GHz dual-core processor for faster performance. It allows connectivity with multiple screens to share content on TV, smartphone, laptop, or tablet.

It’s even NFC (near field communication) enabled to allow consumers to share content with other NFC devices. And as a PlayStation Certified device, it guarantees a high quality smartphone gaming experience and access to the PlayStation Store.

At launch the Xperia S, running on Android platform 2.3 (Gingerbread), will be available to consumers globally in first quarter of 2012. However, an upgrade to Android platform 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) will be available during the second quarter 2012, Sony said.
