Abueva as second overall pick for Alaska? ‘No comment,’ says Luigi Trillo

That was Alaska coach Luigi Trillo’s response when InterAKTV asked him for a reaction on reports that the Aces have promised to pick Calvin Abueva with the No. 2 overall pick in this Sunday’s PBA draft.
While he admitted that he’s enamored with Abueva, Trillo reiterated that the team still has not made a decision.
“Right now, anything can still happen. Abueva, I may say, is high on our list, so is Hodge,” he told InterAKTV. “These gusty are energy guys. If you need guys who are game changers, then the list should narrow down on these two.”
Trillo added that the team could still go in another direction to fill a need, which would mean taking either Alex Mallari or Chris Tiu.
“Mallari is like a Jared Dillinger or a Gabe Norwood-type of player,” he said. “We know what Chris Tiu could do.”
But Trillo also expressed concern about Tiu’s age. The former SMART-Gilas stalwart turned 27 years old last July. “We don’t know up to when will he play in the PBA,” said Trillo.
“It’s hard for us because aside from Fajardo, who will be picked by Petron, there’s no sure choice at this time. But the four players I mentioned top our list.”
