Abueva to miss D-League semis match vs Big Chill

Calvin Abueva of NLEX will miss Game 2 of the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup semifinals against Big Chill for a flagrant foul infraction he committed in the Road Warriors’ 83-66 defeat in the series opener.

Abueva, the NCAA Most Valuable Player in the recent season, was ejected in the two minute and three second mark of the third period of Game 1 after elbowing Big Chill’s Jessie Collado that merited a flagrant foul two violation.

The PBA Commissioners’ Office reviewed the incident and decided to slap a one-game suspension on Abueva.

His ejection sparked a turnaround for Big Chill, which was already holding a big margin at that time, racing to an 11-0 spurt to hold a 70-42 lead at the end of the third canto.

Game 2 is set on Thursday at the Ynares Sports Arena with NLEX trying to force a deciding Game 3 for a seat in the finals.

NLEX Boyet Fernandez said that it wasn’t just Abueva’s absence that allowed Big Chill to post a huge victory but also their inability to play defense.

“We allowed them to take so many easy baskets. But I’m sure we will be come back from our Game 1 loss,” said Fernandez.
