Former Meralco import Champ Oguchi has turned heads with his performance for Nigeria in the 2012 London Olympics, and it just might lead to his ticket to the NBA.
Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports is reporting that Oguchi has received attention from several teams in the league, who are looking to offer him invitations for training camp on a non-guaranteed deal.
Oguchi, who last played for the Bolts in last season’s Governors’ Cup before being replaced by Mario West, scored 35 points in Nigeria’s final preliminary game against France. Nigeria finished its Olympic campaign with just one win against five losses.
But it has been a banner summer for the African country’s national basketball program, which crashed the Olympics after beating top European teams in a qualifying tournament prior to the Games.
