In an exclusive telecast, AKTV will air the exciting PLDT All-Star Basketball Challenge featuring a team of ex-NBA stars led by Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, and Jason Williams against PBA legends led by Kenneth Duremdes, Jojo Lastimosa, and Jerry Codinera.
The game airs on Monday, July 23 at 8 p.m. with a replay on Friday, July 27 at 9 p.m.
Jason Williams, the NBA’s “White Chocolate,” wowed the crowd with fancy passes and booming three-pointers, while Chicago Bulls legend Scottie Pippen drew the biggest cheers by showing that he could still rise for his trademark slam dunks. An off-the-backboard alleyoop dunk by Pippen off a pass by Williams is a must-see highlight from the event.
Not to be outdone, the locals hoop heroes put up a gallant fight, with Duremdes, Marlou Aquino, Bal David, Noli Locsin, and Nelson Asaytono wowing the crowd during the game.
Just before time expired, an emotional scene occured as Rodman took the microphone to adress the crowd. He acknowledged his father Philander, from whom he has been estranged for 42 years, for the first time in his life. The elder Rodman, an American military veteran, lives in Angeles City, Pampanga.
The UP PEP Squad also provided the opening and halftime numbers that entertained the thousands of fans who watched the hardcourt action at the SM Mall of Asia Arena last Wednesday, July 18.
The All Star Basketball Challenge was presented by PLDT and Mall of Asia Arena with Sports5 as the official broadcast partner. Other sponsors included Alaska, McDonald’s, Microtel Hotel, Molten, Pharex, Outlast Batteries, and SMART.
