Talk ‘N Text veteran center Ali Peek is in stable condition after being shot by a lone gunman in Mandaluyong City on Monday.
The news was confirmed by Talk ‘N Text assistant Josh Reyes, who said that the hulking Filipino-American center is currently confined at Medical City. Peek was coming from a plyometric workout at the RFM Gymnasium when the unknown assailant opened fire at him.
Citing initial reports, Chief Supt. Francisco Manalo, Eastern Police District director, said that Peek was shot once at the nape using an unknown caliber of firearm at the RFM Gym in Barangay Buayang Bato at around 7:30 p.m.
The suspect immediately fled after the shooting while Peek was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Reyes said that while Peek is conscious, a bullet remains lodged at the player’s neck, which would require a procedure to remove.
The 36-year-old Peek was drafted third overall in 1998 and was named to the PBA’s mythical selection last season after helping the Tropang Texters to two championships and three finals appearances.
