Marvin Somodio, the new fair-haired boy of Freddie Roach, will attempt to secure a United States visa on Monday so he can join Manny Pacquiao’s training at the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood.
Pacquiao is getting revved to face Timothy Bradley on June 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and will wrap up his buildup when he trains at the MP Tower on Friday and Saturday before taking a 12-hour flight to Los Angeles via Philippine Airlines.
Somodio had been denied before but is hopeful of being granted one this time as he has now become more visible in Pacquiao’s camp after filling in the void left by Alex Ariza.
Roach loves Somodio’s work ethic and attitude that the 52-year-old multi-awarded trainer is confident that the Filipino can help him a lot as one of his assistants at the Wild Card.
“He will replace a lot of guys there,” said Roach, chuckling.
Somodio is originally from Iloilo but is now living in Baguio City after studying there.
Somodio has assumed the role of Pacquiao’s conditioning coach and has been seen lending a hand to Pacquiao’s stretching exercises.
