Veteran promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank has seen many things in his day, but even he was flabbergasted by Manny Pacquiao’s split decision loss to Timothy Bradley.
“I’ve never been as ashamed of the sport of boxing as I am tonight,” Arum, who handles both fighters, told ESPN after the fight.
Arum stands to make a lot of money in a rematch between the two fighters, which is set on November 10, but he swears he’s furious over the result.
“I’ll make a lot of money off the rematch, but this was outrageous,” he said.
Arum, who believed Pacquiao won the fight handily, said even Bradley didn’t believe he won the fight.
“I went over to Bradley before the decision and he said, `I tried hard but I couldn’t beat the guy,” said Arum.
He told Reuters the decision was more of a shocker than Pacquiao’s narrow win over Marquez.
“It was close, everybody said it was close,” Arum said of Pacquiao-Marquez. “This wasn’t really a close fight.
