Arum wants Pacquiao to consider Mike Jones for 2012
Top Rank boss Bob Arum wants No.1-ranked, undefeated welterweight Mike Jones to be among Manny Pacquiao’s options for a challenger in 2012.
BoxingScene.com on Wednesday reported that a Pacquiao-Jones fight has been discussed by Jones’ camp, and the Top Rank stable under which Pacquiao fights.
Jones takes on Raul Munoz at the South Philly Arena on a Top Rank Live! fight card on Saturday night.
“While in the ring Jones says he will be thinking of what he calls his ‘ultimate goal,’ — taking on pound-for-pound king, Manny Pacquiao,” BoxingScene.com reports. “Fighting Pacquiao, Jones says, has been discussed with his co-managers Jimmy Williams, Doc Nowicki, trainer Vaughn Jackson and promoter J Russell Peltz.”
The boxing site then quotes Arum as saying on Wednesday: “I am planning to put Mike Jones on a list for Manny to consider for 2012.”
Jones, 24-0, 18 KOs, is a native of Philadelphia. He is ranked WBO #1, WBA #2, IBF #3 and WBC #5 at welterweight.
Pacquiao is widely recognized currently as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.
