B-MEG changing name to San Mig Coffee?

Is the PBA’s Purefoods franchise changing its name once more?

A highly-placed source within the organization told InterAKTV that team will carry the brand name San Mig Coffee instead of B-MEG in the upcoming season.

Like B-MEG, San Mig Coffee is one of the brands under San Miguel Purefoods Company, Inc. which owns the PBA franchise.

“San Mig Coffee will be used by B-MEG, although there’s no formal announcement yet,” said the source, who requested anonymity.

B-MEG coach Tim Cone said he hasn’t been advised about a name change, but is aware that there may be a plan.

“That’s what I’ve heard, but I can’t verify. I haven’t heard it from the big bosses yet, so I’m not sure,” said Cone.

PBA commissioner Chito Salud said his office has yet to receive notice of a name change.

“They are still to formalize their request. I think they have not yet made a final decision as to the new team name,” said Salud.
