Baguio City ushers in the Northern, Central Luzon and Cordillera Autonomous Region leg of the Batang Pinoy 2011 with the opening ceremony Wednesday afternoon.
No less than Baguio City mayor Mario Domogan will be on hand as guest of honor and speaker for the four-day event with the active competitions starting on Thursday.
The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) has decided to open the games to all athletes aged 15 years old and below as long as they are endorsed by their local government units so expect more participants to join the event.
The PSC is expecting at least a thousand athletes to join in the meet organized in partnership with SMART, Maynilad and Summit Water.
The gold medal winners in all five regional legs will qualify for the national finals of the Batang Pinoy on December 10 to 13 in Naga City and stand a chance to be trained for the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China.
Two qualifying legs have already been held with Zamboanga City hosting the Mindanao qualifiers last and in Dumaguete City holding the Visayas regional leg last November 10-13.
The final two legs will be held at the University of Makati on November 29 to December 2 and in Sta. Cruz, Laguna on December 4 to 7.
Cebu took the overall title in the Visayas leg claiming 52 gold medals while Zamboanga City nabbed the Mindanao leg title by taking 64 gold medals.
Also supporting the event are MILO, Jollibee, The British Council, Standard Insurance, Manila Bulletin, Negros Navigation-Super Ferry, Kids 3 Food Supplement and RELIV for Kids.
