Central Visayas, NCR archery bets earn four golds each in Palarong Pambansa
LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – Karl Kristian Mari and Bianca Gotuaco bagged four golds each in the secondary division at the start of the archery competition of the Palarong Pambansa 2012 here at the Capitol Resorts Hotel.
The 14-year old Mari ruled the 30-meter, 40-meter and 50-meter events in record fashions and topped the single fita to give Central Visayas four golds in archery.
Mari hit 333 points in the 30-meter event to break the 331 record set by Julius Victorio Cootauco set last year in Dapitan City.
He snared his second gold in the 40-meter with a record-setting 324 points and erased the previous record of 311 registered by Julian Sebastian Teves also last year.
A third gold also came in a Palaro record in the 50-meter event with 313 points, surpassing Teves’ 300 mark last year.
“Very happy kasi first time ko mag-compete sa Palarong Pambansa at record pa,” said the incoming second year student at Catherina Cittadini St. Louis High School in Dumaguete City.
“Two weeks lang ako nag-prepare for this event. Sana manalo pa sa mga susunod na events ko,” added Mari, who also dreams of playing for the national team in the future.
He got only a silver in the 60-meter event but completed the day with a gold in the single fita completion with 1,283 points.
Not to be outdone was Gotauco, who won the gold in the 30-meter, 50-meter, 60-meter and the single fita events to give National Capital Region four golds in the event.
Gotauco, an incoming second year high school student at the International School, scored 337 points in the 30-meter, 300 in the 50-meter, 302 in the 60-meter which was a new Palaro record and 1,236 in the single fita.
Her 60-meter performance broke last year’s record of 300 set by Febenlyn Encabo of Region 9.
Northern Mindanao’s Janice Cababan won the gold in the 40-meter event via countback against NCR’s Caitlin Ann Miciano. Both finished with 307 points.
