Corteza sizzles in China Open billiards; Orcullo, Biado stay alive
Lee Van Corteza of the Philippines continuous to sizzle in the China Open, dispatching Naoyuki Oi of Japan, 9-3, to stay in the winner’s bracket on Friday.
Corteza, a former World 10-Ball runner-up and the highest-ranked Filipino player in the World Pool-Billiard Association, has claimed his second straight win. He also defeated Marcus Chamat of Sweden, 9-5, on opening day on Thursday.
Former world champion Dennis Orcullo and up and coming Carlo Biado averted early elimination after defeating their respective rivals.
Orcullo, who lost a narrow 9-8 match against little knonw Andreas Gerwen of Sweden on Thursday, vented his ire on crack Dutch player Nick van den Berg, 9-7, to stay alive.
Biado, a 9-7 loser to compatriot Alex Pagulayan, whipped Alok Kumar of India, 9-1.
Pagulayan fell in the loser’s bracket after being defeated by hometown bet Dang Jinhu, 9-4.
