D-League: Big Chill cruises past Erase Plantcenta
The Big Chill Superchargers showed no signs of a team coming off a two-week break as they rolled past Erase Plantcenta, 106-69, Thursday to move a victory away from clinching an outright semifinals berth in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena.
In its first game since April 30, Big Chill scored six straight points to open up the game and never lost control building a huge lead on its way to a sixth victory after eight games, tying Cebuana Lhuillier for second place.
So dominant were the Superchargers that they had an 85-44 lead to start the fourth period.
“We didn’t do anything wrong in this game,” said Big Chill coach Robert Sison. “Sabik sila sa laro and I think rust wasn’t in our minds going into the game. Gigil talaga sila maglaro kaya the game turned in our favor.”
The Superchargers can gain the outright semifinals berth if they win their last outing against RnW Pacific Pipes on May 24 or if Cebuana Lhuillier loses against Erase Plantcenta on May 22.
But Sison said losing isn’t an option when they play against the Steelmasters.
“It’s very important that we win against RnW. We are going to play our best against them,” Sison said.
Big Chill had six players in double figures with Jessie Collado scoring 16 points, Mac Montilla having 15 including 12 in the second quarter, and Jeff Viernes and Raffy Reyes each adding 14 points each. Keith Jensen and Jewel Ponferrada had 12 points each.
With the loss, Erase Plantcenta are now hard-pressed to win over Cebuana Lhuillier as the Erasers are now tied with Boracay Rum and Café France with a 3-5 win-loss card in a tight race for the final quarterfinal slot.
Jett Vidal led the Erasers with 13 points.
