Denzel Bowles named to Hornets’ NBA Summer League team
Former B-MEG Llamados import Denzel Bowles will be playing alongside top NBA draft pick Anthony Davis for the New Orleans Hornets in the 2012 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.
The Hornets announced their summer league roster yesterday, which includes Davis, #10 pick Austin Rivers and four players from the end-of-the-season roster of the Hornets: Xavier Henry, Jerome Dyson, Lance Thomas and Darryl Watkins.
The 6-foot-10 Bowles led the Llamados to the PBA Commissioner’s Cup title after with a dominating 39-point, 21-rebound performance in Game Seven of the finals, including two pressure-packed free throws that forced overtime. Bowles scored 11 of B-MEG’s 14 points in the extra period to seal the championship, the first of Bowles’ young career.
Bowles was also named Best Import of the Conference.
In the Summer League, the 23-year-old Bowles gets a chance to play with the young, new core of the rebuilding Hornets in Davis and Rivers.
The 6-10 Davis was the consensus top pick of the NBA draft and was named most outstanding player of the NCAA tournament in leading the Kentucky Wildcats to the title. The 6-4 Rivers, son of Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers, averaged 15.5 points for the Duke Blue Devils in his lone NCAA season.
The Hornets open their season on July 15, Sunday, against the Portland Trail Blazers. They will play five games in seven days, and will compete against NBA teams Milwaukee, Phoenix, Dallas and Golden State.
