The cat’s finally out of the bag: reigning NBA Most Valuable Player Derrick Rose will be the eighth member of the Ultimate All-Stars that will play in a series of exhibition games at the Araneta Coliseum on July 23 and 24.
Rose will be joining a murderer’s row of talent led by five-time NBA champion Kobe Bryant, point guard extraordinaire Chris Paul, former Rookie of the Year Tyreke Evans, 2011 No. 2 overall pick Derrick Williams, bearded wonder James Harden, big man DeAndre Jordan, and veteran guard Derek Fisher.
The news was confirmed by MVP Sports Foundation president Al Panlilio to the Philippine Daily Inquirer’s June Navarro.
Millions of Pinoy basketball fans should be thrilled by the arrival of Rose, the leader of the Chicago Bulls, which has been one of the most popular teams in the Philippines since Michael Jordan’s heyday. It also gives the visiting NBA contingent another superstar, and saves Pinoy Laker haters the awkwardness of having to cheer for Bryant.
