England-based OFW honored with spot in Olympic torch relay
ANTIPOLO CITY – The Enteria family and neighbors at Peace Village in this upland city of Rizal province are now very excited to see one of their fellow residents carry the official Olympic 2012 torch in London starting May 19.
City Information Office Chief Reuel Vidal said members of the Enteria family and neighbors in the subdivision are hopeful that Reymundo “Apol” Enteria, an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) based in Kent, England, will get the chance to tell the world about this pilgrimage capital city and the country where he comes from.
Vidal said the young Enteria has been chosen among the 7,000 people from across the globe who will carry and pass on the 2012 London Olympics torch starting May this year.
Aside from Enteria, Filipino-British achiever Steven Cheung is among the world’s inspirational people who will represent various countries and groups as Olympic torch bearers in the torch relay across the British Isles for the 2012 Olympics, he said.
Vidal said Enteria comes from an OFW family, with his mother having worked in a Hong Kong factory, while his brother and brother-in-law are both working in Saudi Arabia. His father is a jeepney driver here.
Enteria himself also worked in Saudi Arabia for many years before he went to the United Kingdom to work as occupational therapist.
Vidal said Enteria’s sister Maribel, who is a teacher at Peace Village Elementary School, is very proud of her OFW brother.
“Deserving siyang maging torch bearer kasi napakabuti niyang anak, mabait na kapatid at higit sa lahat, mapagmahal na kaibigan. At talagang may takot sa Diyos,” Maribel told newsmen.
Vidal said information obtained from the office of City Mayor Danilo Leyble here showed that Enteria is an occupational therapist at Raphael Medical Center in Kent, England.
On July 22, Enteria will do the 300-meter run for the borough of Barking and Dagenham. The torch relay will start on May 19 until the opening day of the London Olympics Games on July 27, he said.
