Famous to suit up for Meralco in opener
Hours before the deadline for notification for teams changing imports, the Meralco Bolts advised the PBA on Thursday that Jarrid Famous will suit up for the team in lieu of NBA veteran Jelani McCoy.
Meralco coach Ryan Gregorio confirmed the development to InterAKTV a day before the Bolts face the B-MEG Llamados to open their Commissioner’s Cup campaign.
“The short conference does not allow teams to relax. With only nine games in the elims, the mindset is already playoff basketball,” said Gregorio.
Gregorio described Famous as an “athletic big man who can run.”
“He will fit our local crew that loves to run. We’re ready for battle against one of the strongest teams in the league, but we will do our best to compete, stay close and win.”
With the acquisition of Paul Artadi prior to the tournament and the return of Chris Ross, who missed most of the season-opening Philippine Cup due to injury, Gregorio said that speed will be a big weapon for the Bolts in the tournament.
“It would be interesting to see Ross and Artadi play our back court. With them, we will definitely be quicker. Cardona played good in our pre-season games, hopefully he can play consistent ball for us,” added Gregorio.
