The champions of the recently-concluded Commissioner’s Cup and the defending titleholders of the Governors’ Cup are favored to win the PBA’s season-ending tournament, according to fans of the league.
In a poll on InterAKTV, fans installed the B-MEG Llamados and the Petron Blaze Boosters as the favorites to win the 2012 PBA Governors’ Cup.
As of 2 p.m. Sunday, B-MEG led the polling with 37.49 percent of the votes, while Petron followed suit with 30.4 percent.
The Llamados are coming off an thrilling seven-game win in the Commissioner’s Cup over the Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters. B-MEG depended heavily on the heroics of Best Import winner Denzel Bowles in the tournament, and is expected once again to rely on their Governors’ Cup import, Marqus Blakely, a former star at the University of Vermont.’
The Boosters, meanwhile, are raring to get back into their winning ways after a disappointing Commissioner’s Cup campaign where they failed to make it to the playoffs. Petron has been busy in the offseason, acquiring Marcio Lassiter and Dorian Peña to beef up their title-retention bid, and are welcoming back star players Jay Washington and Chris Lutz from stints in injured Bay. The Boosters are also pinning their hopes of a repeat on Eddie Basden, a cat-quick defender who once played for the Chicago Bulls.
Ginebra placed third in the poll with 20.25 percent, while Talk ‘N Text, which has made the finals in each of the last five tournaments, was a remote fourth with 5.82 percent.
