SINGAPORE – Former Philippine Olympic Committee president Cristy Ramos had some harsh words about the state of Philippine sports after watching the video of the Filipino divers competing in the Southeast Asian Games.
“Pity the Philippines! What a joke the Philippines has become in sports!” wrote the former Presidential daughter in an exclusive online interview with InterAksyon.com.
The video of John David Pahoyo and John Fabriga, two Pinoy divers who both earned a zero in failed attempts in the diving competition, went viral on Thursday.
For Ramos, the Philippine Amateur Swimming Association, headed by president Mark Joseph, should be held accountable for the performance. Ramos, a former official of the Asian Football Confederation women’s committee, believes the NSA should make sure it will send only the best athletes in major international competitions such as the SEA Games.
“Definitely a reprimand is at hand. The NSAs need to meet a standard and obviously this group didn’t. They are also accountable for the public funds given them for this event,” Ramos said.
