Freddie Webb wants PSC law amended to prevent too much politics
Former senator and ex-Olympian Freddie Webb, the author of the Philippine Sports Commission Law, believes the charter of the agency needs to be changed.
“It has to be amended because of so much politicking,” Webb said during Monday night’s PBA Press Corps awards night.
“Kapag mayroong lalapit na pulitiko at hindi napagbigyan ng chairman, either iipitin yung pondo or gagawan ng paraan para patalsikin. This law should be amended and ensure that yung taong ilalagay dito is entitled to stay for a six-year term and serves at the pleasure nung nag-appoint sa kanya.”
Webb, a member of the last Philippine basketball team to play in the Olympics in 1972 in Munich, said the position of PSC chairman is sensitive because it entails looking after the welfare of athletes.
“Kailangan yung PSC chairman highly qualified at hindi dahil kasa-kasama lang o kaibigan ng Presidente,” he said.
