Global FC cruised to a 3-1 victory over Stallion Giligan’s to boost its Division One title chances in United Football League action Tuesday night at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.

Sudanese striker Izo Elhabib netted two goals to propel Global to the top of the standings with 38 points in 16 matches.

Elhabib’s guns were ablaze early in the match, hitting the back of the net at the 28th minute off a cross from midfielder Yu Hoshide in the left wing.

Global doubled its lead after defender David Basa threw a nifty assist from the left flank to Alex Obiang, who slotted a goal at the 34th minute to give Global a commanding 2-0 edge at the end of the first half.

Stallion came out roaring to start the second half, finding scoring opportunities twice that could have brought it back in the game. But outstanding goalkeeping from Global’s Jerome Etoundi kept Stallion from scoring.

Global sealed the victory after El Habbib fired another goal off a pass from Angel Guirado at the 81st minute to give them a comfortable 3-0 cushion late in the game.

Forward Ruben Doctora scored a goal at the 85th minute for the lone goal of Stallion, which currently sits at fourth place in the standings with 25 points.

The victory gave Global a slight edge in the UFL title race, putting it ahead by two points against Kaya, which has 36 points, and Loyola Meralco Sparks, which has 35.

Global still has two matches left in its schedule, including a crucial tiff against Loyola on June 26 which could determine the Division One champion.
